…the gaping hole that my disappointment with Massive Attack’s Heligoland left me with.

It’s basically Far East meeting Southern Rhythm and Blues in the brain of that scraggly bass wanderer, Gaslamp Killer. It’s rad.

The Mad Decent crew slipped this one out to the blogosphere yesterday. Four Floors is a low end workout-and-a-half; a track guaranteed to hit the club circuit hard. I dig the production, but, I kinda prefer my Diplo a little more sweaty and tropical and a little less like it came out of a London basement, but that’s just me. I suspect this won’t be the last we’re hearing from Sunday Girl either.

Memory Cassette becomes Memory Tapes becomes Weird Tapes and makes chunky electro-pop. Whatever the name, I dig.

Mia Doi Todd’s tropical vibe fits like a glove with that unmistakable Gondry touch. It’s colorful and involves t-shirts and choreography. There’s also bonus homo-eroticism! I’ve watched this more than a few times…

Fresh post-punk, post-riotgrrl, crispy clean femme rock outta Manchester (think: Kate Bush and the Gossip). Her debut Nerve Up comes out Feb. 22nd, on Warp.
You can download her lead single “Immaterial” off of Warps website

So despite a bunch of spite being thrown at the year-end-list phenomenon by some of the more ‘serious critics’ this year, I bring you my list of my favorite albums made in 2009.
Let me know what you think.
10. Kaito – Trust

Not exactly anything new for the Japanese producer, but man his music makes me feel good.
9. Black Moth Super Rainbow – Eating Us

Slightly less bubble-gum trippy drippy, but still just as weird as some of their older stuff. Dig.

Beach House finally win’s me over with this track off of their upcoming album Teen Dream. I absolutely adore the bridge, and the abandon with which Victoria Legrand asks “how much longer can you play with fire, huh? huh? huh?” – oh so gut-wrenching.
